bought my limited ex with 36k on it (only paid 22k and it is perfect) the wife, myself and a growing number of our freinds are quickly coming to the conclusion that this is the ultimate suv (two freinds with 'burbs have recently traded 'em on ex's) ... my question is what mileage is everyone getting out of their brakes, we're up to 44k and i had to replace the pads and rotors on the back ... wife told me tuesday that they were grinding ... and today both rear inner pads were toast and had ate into rotors ... hopefully you guys'll tell that the brakes are good for more than 40 thousand miles
I bought my '00 V10 Limited 4X4 X new, and I currently have about 57K miles on it. I am browsing the forum tonight because I am looking for info on a good aftermarket braking system...(someone advised me here before)...because I am going on break job number FOUR! Fortunately, the first 3 were done complements of uncle Ford. The problem is that the rotors warp and speed up pad wear. These are GREAT trucks...I wouldn't trade mine...but they just need beefier brakes...after market rotors that won't warp. I've seen whole systems for up to 5,000.00, and pads and rotors for as little as 500.00. I'm grinding big time right now...looking for the 500.00 set up. In the meanwhile, 1st gear works really well to stop us (-:
You may want to check out EGR brakes. Their carbon/kevlar pads are supposed to outlast any other. They are a bit on the pricey side but may be well worth it if the last as long and work as good as they claim. Good Luck!
