FX4 Package....Info needed

Can someone tell me what the effects of the FX4 Package are on the F250

Handling?

Ride, is it rougher?

Any thing else I need to know about it?

I don't think the ride will be affected at all.

This is what is included:

● Descent Control™
● Rancho® branded shocks – colored front and rear
● Transfer case and fuel tank skid plates
● Unique "FX4 Off-Road" box decal

Think I read that there is an "electronically activated rear locking differential" as well.

My big concern is how the shocks may change the way it rides.

The Electronic locker is required if you get the FX4, but not part of the package. I think the shock difference will be minor in the ride. Maybe drive with and without, using the same route.

Shocks are the exact same. One just has a fake plastic bellows and a Rancho sticker. Both suck to be honest. I tossed mine on my 2016 with less than 1,000 miles on the truck. 2 of the 4 did not rebound at all when I pulled them off the truck

Ok, then if the shocks are the same, the ride will be the same. Nothing else in the FX4 will affect the ride.

Correct. Ride will be the same. No change in spring rates associated with the FX4 package. Other packages do effect spring rates, but I even think the plow prep coils ride smooth.

Test drive both, that's what I did. The F350 Lariet w Fx and plow and camper package rode like a board w the rear end wanting to jump ahead of the front on abrupt bumps. Then I drove a Platty w 4x4 pkg and no snow plow pig, tracked way better with no rear end jausting hop. Find some rough roads and take both on the same ride.

I'm very picky however, most prob don't care as much as I do about the ride quality.

This information on here is absolutely incorrect. I have been reading this forum every single day since this 2017 page was opened and constantly people complain about the fx4 rancho branded shocks and the rough rides. Most finally switch them out for fox or blisteen. Not everyone may have this opinion but it's really common. I avoided the fx4 package specifically for the ride difference. Just search a bit and you'll see!

Yeah my dealer had this info as well. After I came back unimpressed with the Lariet, I was getting ready to leave for my GM dealer until he said "hang on, will you test drive this other truck, I think you will like the ride much better!"; My dealer knew this through prior complaints I guess.

End of story, I liked it so much I placed my order for a 4x4 and no plow pkg that same day. My new F350 without that suspension has since come in and rides great, tracks and holds the middle of the road with 2 fingers on the wheel, effortless.

There seems to be a little mixed information/input. I guess that's typical of forums.

I'm scheduled to pick the truck up tomorrow but nothing has been finalized so I guess I'd better take it for another ride and get off the smooth highway. I don't want to buy a truck and next week have to spend $$ to make it ride better.

Roads locally have some rough spots (PA) and I'd prefer not getting my teeth jarred out of my head.

My 2007 lariat outlaw that I ordered in did not have the fx-4 package on it after 10,000 Kms I found that the front end was bottoming out we too easily all about dealer traced it back to bad front shocks when he ordered new ones I asked him to put the FX4 rancho shocks on it I found that it Road much better since then every truck that I have ordered I have ordered it with the fx4 package. I guess everyone has a different opinion on ride quality to each his own. Also if you don't like it it's just a matter of $400 for new shocks and get the ride that you want I would not pass up the truck just because of this package I don't think the regular shocks are any better

Is there a way to get hill descent control without the fx4 package?

didnt see anything on the ordering guide allowing this but wondering if a dealer can make it happen, has anyone tried?

i used this feature in the mountains and it was nice to have.

The bottoming out, was it off road stuff I assume? I'm an old guy and am pretty gentle on my trucks so I don't think I'm going to bottom out with either. At least I hope not
