Depends on the trailer and the wheel and tire combo on your truck.

With a 2" ball hitch you want the top of the ball approx 18" from the ground loaded With a 2-5/16" ball hitch you want to be at 21"-22" from the ground to top of ball loaded. Get your drop hitch measurement from these numbers.

Many of us went with an adjustable drop Weigh Safe that maxed out at 8" drop.

Yes I got the 6" weigh safe and have been on the last notch already in just the few times I've used it.

The most I ever needed with my 2012 350 was a 6" drop. So, the new receiver being exactly 2" taller told me that the most I'd need with my 17 is an 8".

The top of the hitch receiver on an F350 CC with 20" wheels is 24" (give or take a fraction) above the ground. The ball receiver on a small trailer (like for hauling a mini-excavator) is about 16" above ground level, so an 8" hitch drop keeps the trailer level. I haven't done it, but I assume that raised all the way up, the hitch should work with a larger trailer with a ball receiver 24" above ground.

They do make a 10" but Weigh Safe doesn't recommend it as will likely have ground contact in certain situations.

Has anyone had any hesitation with an aluminum shank? I told my buddy I was ordering an aluminum hitch, and he had a mini- stroke, claiming I would die, and I would kill my horses when the hitch broke... Any truth at all to this? I am a big believer in Aluminum!
