OK when I had my PSD it would spew black smoke everytime I put Texaco fuel in. My brother just called me to ask if something was wrong with his truck because he was sendingout black smoke signals. First question was where did he fill up? Texaco. Have any of you seen this same thing? What could be inf there fuel to do this?
Our Texaco diesel is good here as lonf as you are getting the real Texaco diesel. Some stations buy other fuel sometimes. We like the SHELL oil version of the Texaco diesel the best.
Around our area we really only have two choices, well three if you count wally world. Thats texaco and Cowboys. I have been using Texaco and havn't had a bit of problem, either smoke or loss of power. I do use the adds. So far no problems.
If you get the "real brand" fuel and not some "off brand" or local from the station, Texaco, Shell and Chevron are all merging. I notice the color of the diesel varies from station. Some of the diesel is almost clear, and some of the diesel is very yellow. I use the PS additives when I travel and I do not have any problems.
It's not what brand of diesel you fill up with. The only way you'll probably get some black smoke, is if you don't fill up with "fresh" diesel. It can sit for a few hours and maybe even a few days and still be fresh. After that, it only detirorates. If you fill up at the stations where you see all the big 18-wheelers filling up, you'll always have fresh diesel in your tank. On average big rigs will consume a large enough amount of diesel that will almost require diesel shipments 2 or 3 times a week. (I'm just guessing here, so don't hold it all against me.) So I fill up at all known big rig stations when I can. This is all based on personal experience. The only time I saw my X leave some serious smoke behind was when it sat in the hot sun for a day on about a quater tank. I peeled in front of some car, floored it, and I left a cloud of black smoke behind. The car had to stop and wait until it all cleared to get moving again. Just remember: Clean fuel=A Clean Burning Engine.
Change the fuel filter also. I fill up at the diesel station with all the contractor/landscaper/construction traffic. You can also call some store managers, local general offices and some corporate offices and ask how often the diesel is filled. I usually just ask the counter person (one that has been there for a while) and they will tell you off their chart when the last delivery of diesel was. Also if the tanks are older at the station, when the new fuel is pumped into the tanks, debris is stirred up. So make certain their is an external filter on the station pump's fill line to the nozzle.
