hello,
I have a 98 v6 4.0
I recently lost 1 of my keys and am down to 1. I know very little about the whole pats setup. I know there is a device the dealer uses to reprogram new keys when only 1 is left. I would like to try and find this device, buy it if it is not that expensive and have my local mechanic or myself try to reprogram the keys.
Has anyone found a work around the the whole PATS setup, for us "do it yourselfers" like me. I can probably get new keys for about $18 bucks cut, but they still have to be programed to the comp. right. So I don't know its still big bucks just for some keys. any help would be greatly apprcicieated
Thanks
You can find NGS on Ebay for about 1800.00 but thats a little drastic for a key program. Pop the bucks and have the dealer program it. Then buy another key and program it your self, then you will always have a spare.
cycle both programed keys and follow with the unprogrammed key within 5 seconds of each other.
sounds like a plan to me. Thanks for all the help. I just found out that I have a remote start on it. I just have to find out where it is located, cause I think there might be either a spare key or a spare chip near the remote start sensor?
thanks again.
Depends on the manufacturer of the remote start. The Ford dealer installed unit has a PATS interface module that uses no key for remote start. It is a solid state module which you program like a key.

Oh well, guess we'll see what happens. All I know is, I better not lose the one i have before getting some spares.
p.s.
I was able to get my truck to run without a special pats key. I use the remote start, then put the ignition switch to run pos. with non pats key and bingo she runs. ???
