I got a 96' Eddie Bauer F-150 with a 4.9l engine, and while it has good power(I believe 160hp and 260ft lbs) I want more, without sacrificing alot of milage, as I drive about 100 miles a day. I want to throw on a set of Clifford headers and flowmaster muffler, but are there any adjustments I can do at home, or what kinda cam could I use that would work with the computer, if that is a concern? Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated!

One thing I would do to get more power and gas mileage, and fairly simple to do, is install a powermodule, and a K&N filtercharger. I can'
t tell you how much they'll do but its a start!
A cat-back exhaust system is a big plus as well.
Clifford Headers make a very notiable difference and add a Big Performance sound. If possible in your area get true Dual exaust run off the headers but only 2.25" any Bigger and you won't get the back pressure required. As for cams, I don't know of a company that make a cam that works with a stock engine/Computer. I am running a CompCam 260H in My 300-6 but mine is Carborated (Holley 450cfm 4bbl) With Split headers,Offy DP intake, Holley 450cfm, 9.2/1 compression and polished head mine Engine Dynos 231HP and 342 ft-lbs.
Great Engine. I pull cattle with my 1989 F-150, extended cab. I have 198000 on it, and it still looks fairly new. I recently put the clifford headers, a flowmaster cat and catback system (duals), but the k & n filter charger and chip in it. It really does wonders for performance.
If you really want to get serious, contact Vortecheng.com and email them and ask for a supercharger system kit. Could run up to 3000.00, but that thing will scream!!!!!!
I am always looking for add-ons for my engine. Keep me abreast of anything. It is hard to find extras for our 4.9L.
P.S. Do you like your transmission set up?
If so, what is your transmission. Is it auto or standard, and what rearend is in your truck? Short bed or long, extended or regular?

Can you give me some info. on the Edelbrock Catalytic convertor you said you replaced on your '89. I have dual exhaust on my 93 f-150 w/o mufflers and just wondered if it would make the 93 a bit louder...
Clifford has a selection of cams that are compatable with the computer EFI system. I would also recommend an ignition upgrade. I used a MSD on my truck. Good luck.
An aftermarket ignition such as MSD,ACCEL,CRANE, and HOLLEY improve the spark by using multiple firing. By that I mean it fires each cylinder more than once creating a more complete fuel burn. This results in greater power and drivability is improved also. The engine will be more responsive, start easier, and pull better without sputtering. Mileage may improve, but not every time.
Clifford claims their cams are designed for computer controlled engines. I have one in my 300 six. This is an older model without computer, but I can tell you it increased power considerably.
