It's finally time for new brakes. My 2009 F150 SC 5.4 needs new front brake pads. With 109,000 miles on it I can't complain but I do hope to improve. While pulling my travel trailer I have had a few white knuckle moments. This happens at the end of a quick stop when the brakes seem to fad. So I'm looking for recommendations on replacement brake pads. I would like to keep the stock rotors. I have used EBC pads on my Harley's and liked them but not sure they are my best bet for the truck.
I've been using Wearever Platinum's from Advance Auto for a number of years now.
they are ceramic and seem to stop better the harder you stop. I've never had them fade, but I've never pushed my luck with them either.
so far I've used them on my explorer and expedition and they have been really great when towing. No noticeable dust either. Plus they come with all the pad hardware, so they are cheaper than buying a less expensive pad and then buying the clips/retainers.
I'm happy enough with the performance of these pads that I will be using them on everything until they are no longer available.
I've used Wagner Thermo Quiet brake pads for years. Depends on application, but you can get them in semi metalic, or ceramic. I mostly use the metalic pads, and I get at least 75K out of them. But I do little towing, and I'm not hard on brakes. And vary little brake dust. Orielly's stocks these, also brake rotors, and drums, as well as other brake parts.
I use Motorcraft pads only, and get them from rockauto.com here lately. I've tried ceramic pads but they don't bite as hard, and I've tried semi-metallics but they dust like h***. So the OE pads seem to be the best I can find.
To the OP, I've had several different Brands of "upgraded brakes" over the years & IMO especially for the price, POWERSTOP has nailed it. I have been pulling a 2016 Jayco TT (appx 5200 lbs) with absolute ease. In no way is my F150 as capable or pull anywhere as efficiently as my F250 Powerstroke pulled our 31' 5th-Wheel, but that would be comparing apples-oranges. The point is the F150 gets the current TT moving ok, but it gets it stopped very good now.
I agree here...POWERSTOP kit. I upgraded to 35" tires and the brakes couldn't handle it. OEM pad cracked and tore up my rotor in no time. Upgraded rotors and got the carbon fiber/ceramic pads. Brakes grab so hard now (when you stomp them) that it almost overrides the "anti-lock" (tires will leave rubber on the road, but don't lock down.

I chucked my pads and rotors at 20K miles, installed Power Stop drilled and slotted rotors with Hawk ceramic pads. I'd estimate that I gained about 20% stopping power.
