Y2K, so funny about the box. I found that box at an auto swap meet a year ago. It was all dusty. Just last week, I installed it when I changed the back up horn as a way to hide all the connections. My trailer wire connections are all bundled and taped in a thick cord.
HA HA! Even MORE in common then. Both dusty boxes forlorn, forgotten, and found in unlikely places (speed shop, swap meet), rather than at a trailer store or truck stop. And both self installed. And both of us were saddled with tapped spaghetti from the upfitter.
The box length fits like a glove in the downward divot on the Ford crossmember when centered, save for the factory wire harness in the way. So I removed and reconfigured the stock harness retention clip to route the harness higher toward the upper flange of the crossmember, which provided just enough clearance for the box to nest squarely in the center of the divot. It's almost as if the crossmember was designed to accommodate this box, as the width of the divot and the width of the box match perfectly.
To think that someone else found the same box in an unusual place for the same application on the same vehicle no less (a black crew cab F-4/550), and that we would both be responding to the same thread, is just stunning odds.
Wait! maybe were brothers from another mother? Or, is it; great minds think alike? I know. it's a small world and it gets smaller and smaller as we get older. H
