transmission problem ?
i have a 1990 2.9l ranger , dont know what trans , but after my truck warms up the transmission has a hard time shifting and when it does it shifts real hard and the rpms go real high before it will shift , when the motor and transmission is cold everyting is fine , it works great , transmission fluid and filter was changed 2 months ago

My 95 ford ranger does the same thing also. At first I took it to a transmission shop and they told me that I didn't have second gear. ha ha If I didn't have second gear why would it shift into second gear why would it drive when you put it in second gear, then I went and got a more professional opinion, they said it was also the modultor

I have a '91 4x4 with a A4LD tranny which is what you have im pretty sure. I have rebuilt this thing 5 times already. I can tell you from experience that most likley your having problems with your governor, probably due to debri inside your tranny clogging it up.
Its not a simple fix, your going to have to pull your tranny and open it up, so you may as well rebuild it while your there. I love my ranger but ford put in the worst tranny possible.
