2005 6L 285 75 R16 deleted........ Last trip 500 miles averaged 14mpg 75-80 mph usually around town up and down the hill towing small dump trailer 11mpg
2000 7.3L PSD 2WD, with 305/50R20 Cooper HP Plus tires (~33.5" tall highway tire), stock 2WD suspension, and all other mods listed in my sig. I routinely get about 15-16MPG in mixed use, and 17-18MPG highway, which in Texas is 75-80mph. I don't really ever tow, as it's mainly a family highway tank, so I can't comment on that. With my Max Energy tuner (always Stage 4) my overhead display typically reads 22-25MPG, which is horribly inaccurate. The speedometer has been recalibrated to the tires, and verified via GPS, and the MPG's are always hand calculated at every fill-up via the trip odometer and gallons filled.
I really think if I kept the speed to ~65mph on the highway, I could just maybe tickle that elusive 20MPG number...but I just can't.
I calculated about 7% different between the tires. I calculate that into my mpg also. I do not have the computer in my truck so I have no idea what that would say. I looked up that my tires run 26 lbs more than the factory tires each. Not sure about the rims.
I run 35"s (35.28" to be exact) too and I calculated them to be 12% larger than my stock 31.6" 265/75R16s, maybe we both need to recheck our maths.
I am currently running through my tunes again to see which ones give me the best mileage since the rebuild. I am only 2/10 tunes in so I still have a ways to go. I use 3 tanks per tune to get a good average. The last tune was one of my tow tunes which gave me 17mpg unloaded and 11mpg pulling the new trailer. The pull was a few hundred miles from NJ to western MD filled up before and after towing to calculate.
2003 6.0, 33s, newly rebuilt engine, sct tuner, gearheads tunes. Brand new 39' TT with 11500 GVWR but fresh from dealer with all tanks empty and no personal belongings inside.
Side note: Not realy fond of the gearheads tunes since they all like to shift a lot and every shift feels like I am being bucked by a damn bronco. I blame the shift defuel but if I get better mileage and it helps saves the tranny, then so be it.
2000 7.3 4x4 3.73's currently stock. calculated by hand a few times and determined every time that the lie o meter is off by .5 mpg so I haven't done it since. highway staying around 65 from Houston to dallas I can get 16.5 driving mixed highway and city for work I get 15 to 15.5 driving 60. if I do 75 or so it is around 14. if I drive all city it is around 12.5 or 13. I just ordered a 6inch bds all spring lift and a set of 37 inch nittos so I am sure I will lose a few mpgs and will then start looking at tunes and other mods to try and bring it back up
LOL, OK I will bite. 10 city MAYBE 15-16 highway depending on the speed I set.
The city driving is done about as poorly as you can for this beast, Sunday morning not warmed up enough, 7-8 people into it and off to church (5 minutes away) and some kid is ALWAYS draggin' their butt so I got to stomp on it to get there on time.
When it makes the highway runs, it can be 1 - 5 hours. Any way I cut it the vehicle is always carrying 1000 lbs of people or up to 1500-2000 lbs people and gear. I try to keep it at 70-72mph.
285s for tires (BF Goodies) to make the speedometer match the GPS, 7.3L 4" exhaust, 6628 air filter. 3.73 gear ratio. That's really about it.
I have had a tuner chip in there at one time and once loaded an Edge program to try something different. Back to stock now but contemplating reinstalling the DP Tuner ... I hesitate because of the trouble the mechanic had the 1st time they put it in (there was something non-standard with my truck's "security system" from the factory). Also shy because when I tried the Edge programmer a 2nd time it failed to install properly and cost a lot to reprogram the Excursion back to stock. If Ford would have just done us all a favor with how it came programmed from the factory, right?
Anyway, I figure without serious mods I gotta be about average for the whole lot of 7.3L vehicles out there the way I drive it.
Oh, should mention that right after I bought the beast I went Minneapolis to Rapid City setting the cruise at 55-65 MPH and ignoring all the traffic zooming by in the left lane. I think we managed 19MPG but it felt agonizingly slow and was a completely stock setup.
Has anyone out there watched the videos from Powestrokehelp.com or done any work with that shop near Atlanta? He has some pertinent information on fuel economy and longevity and makes me want to keep modding.

I live 25 miles from "iamanidiotpowerstrokehelp.com" I would rather drive my truck on a flatbed to Michigan and let my 12 year old nephew work on it before I let this jamoke change an inside dome light. But hey, that's just me.

Hey Twitch--if you don't mind, how much did the rebuild cost? I need to start saving my pocket change
Re-reading my post after replies. Listed the wrong fliter, 6637 is whats in there.
Sorry about mentioning powerstroke help dot com. I've only watched videos, I agree he has a rather ... cantankerous personality and really shouldn't say people are idiots like he does, especially since he makes money off their neglect. I have noticed over time that some people like that just seem like they get tired of seeing the same "problems." What I think they forget is that not everyone worships or pays as close attention to the same things they do.
