So using my current truck, Im looking atbuying a camper. Ive figured out a 5th wheel can be up to 10k lbs as mine sits. Using same formula, I got 18k lbs. Now, that seems wayyy too high for a gasser.
What range of TTs can I expect to haul? If same range as 5ths, I may just go that route.
I just traded my 2007 fifth wheel on a new Outback 325bh travel trailer. It doesn't weigh more than 10k and I hardly even know it's behind me when towing it. Approx 800lb tongue weight and I don't even bother with weight distribution hitch or sway control. It's light, stable, and a pleasure to tow. No TT will tow as nicely as a fifth wheel but I am very impressed with the balance and stability of my new camper.
Keystone diamond ultra light series TT is very nice, our 325QB is wonderful to tow around.
from my 2012 F 250. 2 wheel drive, 6.2L. with 3:73 gears.
max tow is 19,500 minus truck weight...equals 12,500 pounds of trailer and fuel/people/stuff.
and F 350 have similar numbers.
4x4 will do LESS.. weight of 4x4 ... trim level. 4 door vers 2 door.
but the 4:30 gears can do 2,000 more trailer.
I am researching 5th toy hauler trailer..... one of interest is 10,500 empty.. and no trailer is towed empty.. except from dealer, first time.
and REMEMBER.. advertised trailer weight is a LIE.... my current one is 800 more then the printed tag (2)....
printed is 7,500.. real cat scaled 8,300 at 2 different scales.. so if you are going NEAR the limit .. YOU BETTER KNOW. have it weighted.. 10 dollars.

6.2 engine, ccc is 3602, GVWR is 11200.
I'm assuming that you are saying that with a 10K TT you will be at 18K total weight (CGVW) and that has you concerned about the gas engine? Our tow rig is a 2V V-10 4R100 in an '05 EXcursion, our TT is a '14 Jayco Eagle 338RETS that scales at 11K lbs and is 41' hitch to bumper. With our older less powerful engine, less capable 4 speed trans and an effective 4.39 gear ratio our gasser does very well at nearly 19K combined weight towing all over the East. Yes, my EX is over on a couple of the factory weights, but it has also been resprung with F-350 suspension with additional leaves added all around, it is within the F-350 specs.
Our 15' F250 C/C 4x4 with 6.2 and 3:73's pulls our 9000# Arctic Fox 26X Travel Trailer
very well. I Use a Blue Ox 10k W/D Hitch, Hellwig Big Wig Rear Sway Bar and Hellwig Rear Air Bags. They're an excellent match.
