1990 f150 4x4. Driving to work. Almost there then I suddenly hear a loud bang on the driver's side as if something had broken underneath. I parked and had to quickly get in to start my shift. After work I started my way home and it was fine until I was almost home. I heard a sudden grinding from the driver side wheel. Grinding, banging as if something was hitting where my left foot was which was next to my high beam switch. It drives fine so far and brakes fine. It's just the horrifying sound I am hearing. I would jack it up and take the tire off but sadly it's suppose to rain tomorrow and it's about 10:30pm now. If it isn't raining I will turn the wheel so I can get a look. Even if I fine out what it is my next day off is Thursday. Any help on trying to figure out what this is would help put my mind at ease a little. Please. Thank you.
so if I read this correct, you can drive your rig for a while before the noise happens. does this affect the braking at all as in pulling to one side or other when applying brakes?
and do you know if your front brake pads are worn totally out?
or did you lose the front driveshaft?
No problems braking at all and yes it seems I can drive it for a while before it starts. But once it starts it will keep going until I come to a stop and then start up again. Everything was fine. Driving like every other day until the loud bang then it started to happen. The road I take is filled with a good amount of bumps too.
Yes it still has the auto locking hubs. I had to do the upper/lower ball joints on the passenger side so I know how to take it apart and put it together. So checking the wheel bearings shouldn't be too hard.
