i need to change the rear axle on my 1996 F-250. It is 2wd, 7.3, manual trans, full float, 3.55 ratio axle, C9 id on door placard. How can I find out, or does anyone know, what would be the newest model year axle that would be interchangeable. I don't know if there's a chart somewhere or if I'd just have to find and compare specs. Any help would be appreciated.
Oh I'd LOVE a 3:55 8 lug rear axle... but I would have to figure out the front axle setup so I don't have a mix-matched wheel setup. I've read swapping over a TTB 50 from the F-250s is about as much work as a solid axle in reference to my Bronco.
To the original poster, I'm pretty sure all/most Ford 8 lugs axles PRIOR to the super duty would be a direct fit, so as 97-PSD said, 97 is about the newest direct swap. I don't know why they decided to change the lug pattern with the super duty axles...
