*** Update: The sound was the waste gate blowing off excess boost back into the intake.
Hey guys,
Wondering if anyone hears a whistling higher pitched air rush coming from the passenger side under full boost, heavy throttle? Its not the mid range howl coming from the intake/turbo but something different. A passenger even noticed it. I've had a small boost leak in a turbo audi in the past so I know i've heard one before and know that if its small enough, it just sounds like air escaping but won't throw a code.
I note that the intake is on the passenger side so maybe its just a crappy airbox design? I don't remember hearing it though when test driving other cars.
I haven't heard anything. It's to quiet lol. I miss hearing my turbo on my last truck. If you can hear a whistle I would say take it in and have them find the leak before it gets worse.
Have them check it, and see what you have for boost on the gauge? Magpie you notice a lower reading?
What is your max boost reading? I see about ?20-25? just looking at the gauge during WOT. It is just past midway on the gauge. What is the known full boost PSI of these trucks anyway?

If I floor it I hear a whistling sound. I believe I have seen the max boost to be about 70% on the gauge, but I will look at it next time and see. I may not need to drive it until Tuesday.
Yep, I have the exact same noise coming from the passenger side .. I checked my air filter and intake clamps and everything was fine .. I'm stumpe as to what it can be
My Dodge Cummins would Turbo-Whistle on cold days only. After it warmed up, it went away. Haven't experienced it on my 17.
This is not turbo whistle that I'm hearing.
There are two stages:
Stage 1 - Annoying turbo howl/hum that exists at low to medium throttle applications. Annoying and not turbo spool/whistle.
Stage 2 - This sound that sounds like an air leak/bypass pass the filter or airbox. Its high pitched and sounds like a boost leak but likely due to poor intake box/filter design.
I don't believe that the factory interference fit on the filter and pipe is tight enough and creates stage 2. Stage 1 is just ****ty design/testing. I'm going to take a very light heavy grease application across the inner filter diameter to see if it gets rid of stage 2. While my duramax didn't have the build quality or as stout a transmission, it didn't have weird intake sounds.
Blow off valves sound pleasant. This sounds like a seal error from poor design. Blow off valves occur usually at let off of throttle. Waste gates occur during WOT when the turbo is willing to make more boost but the electronics say dump it into the post filter intake pipe.

Yeah I looked again here in the last week. Unloaded I'm 60-65 but when towing my empty 24' gooseneck trailer I hit about 75% flooring it up a hill. I was a little surprised.
