I have a 88 ranger it was losing power up hill and dies going around a corner now it wont start. we checked for spark there was non so, we replaced the distributor, wires, rotors, most all of it. noe it sparks when you first turn the key and stops while it cranks and then sparks when you shut it down!! a friend said check the electical control box in the colum from the ignition that it may need adjusting i cant even find it so i need helpl either another idea or a stick of dynamite ! btw the coil is throwing a full charge
Hate to throw parts at things, but the TFI Module mounted on the distributor is notorious for going out. You can pull it off very easy and take it to an auto parts place- many have the ability to check it out for free.

What I am referring to is gray in color and is mounted right on the distributor. It has two screws holding it on and you will need a $4 tool to get it off (you have to lift up and out- don't break the metal connectors).
Moved to the ranger forum. This forum is only for 87-96 F-150s and E-150s, with the exception of larger trucks that have the same parts as an F-150 (like the body).
