Only a few around here in southern Oregon. Been going to a particular one for years and went last week to try and find a cruse control cable for wife's 98 blazer, long story there.
Anyway their policy changed, as of Jan 1, 2017 they now require a $10 admission fee just to walk into the yard, non refundable. If I can't find the part I was looking for I'm out 10 bucks. We had a few words, their comments were "Certainly you can find at least 10 dollars worth of Stuff" as those items would be deducted from the admission fee.
Just venting, is this a normal industry practice in your area's?
Mike, don't know the definition of LKQ? Here it is bring your tools and, remove the item if you can find it, then pay. I did not get past the any other options as they were not interested in my comments. Just stupid kids at the counter, oh well.
last junk yard I went to tried to sell me a diff with worn pinion bearings that was in worse shape than the one I was replacing
looked and found another one and went to pay for it and the gal said 650, I said I was quoted 250 on the phone and she changed the price. was actually quoted 450 but raising the price after wasn't nice. All new brakes were on it too.

Most around here do that now...I am sure it has to do with liability insurance... any where from $1 to $20
Yeah the junk yards around here are all pretty much $3. That's not too bad, I'd be a little bummed if it were more and I'd probably just skip it if it was 10 bucks unless I had a huge shopping list to do.
I haven't been to a junk yard around here for several years, but none of them ever charged anything. I pretty much have my own junk yard here at home now! LOL!
I work at a salvage yard, and the admission is $2. This is because of everyone being so sue-happy that the owners need to cover their a$$. I know its annoying, but its the world we live in.
