transmission vacuum line

I was wondering if anyone makes a pre bent line for the c6 trans and our trucks? I have a 66 f100 with the straight 6. I have done a quick search and pretty sure there isn't anything out there, since everything came up for the mustangs; if that is the case is there anything close that can be used from other years etc? thanks for the help. in the end I will need a vacuum line for my swap just figured I see about another bent/length. thanks.

If you are getting it from a salvage yard the transmission should have a vacuum line on it already. If not you can make your own. All you need is vacuum to the modulator. The real problem is getting the correct kick down rod. Those things are very difficult to make and usually get thrown away.

It's the yellow zinc plated rod in the picture that goes from the carb to the kick down lever on the trans. Without that the transmission will short shift and it won't downshift under a load. Basically the drivability will suck.
You say you got the trans from craigslist. Did it come from a truck? Are you planning on using the column shifter or a floor shifter?

1978 was the first year that the C6 was available with 300/302 engines in F100/150 & F250 300. But the C4 was also available thru 1981.

Prior years, back to 1965, only the C4 was available except in F350's with 300 I-6 which used MX C-O-M (1965/72) or FMX (1973/77).

240 cancelled at the end of the 1974 model run.

I've got a couple of the original kickdown rods for the MX COM with 352 2V. They look about the same overall as what CropDuster shows on his, but they can vary a little as far as bends and length goes so you want to make sure you get the correct one for your application. For me it is -

C5TZ-7A187-B .. Engine Mounted Accelerator Shaft To Transmission Throttle Control Outer Lever Rod

So the kickdown rod is similar to a kickdown cable? The trans was originally in an econoline with a 300... im using a floor shifter. B&m starshifer to be exact.

if the kickdown cable is same as the rod, I bought a universal kickdown cable.... is it a must to install the kickdown? also, what is the exact size line and fittings to use for the vacuum line? also when I was searching vacuum line, stainless steel braided line came up as an option for vacuum line connection, is this a possibility for this application? this is all new to me/a learning experience so sorry for all the questions, just really want to get this thing finished up and driving.

It will move down the road without the kickdown, but only just, and not very well. Yes, you need it hooked up and properly adjusted. The modulators use a 1/4 inch rubber push on hose fitting to connect to a 1/4 inch solid line to the vacuum source. No clamps used or needed. I used aluminum line mostly because I had it already and it's easy to bend. You can just make it out in the picture I posted next to the dipstick.

Thanks Crop. I will see about getting some brake line tubing this weekend and try my shot at bending it up. What kind of fitting would i need for the exhaust manifold? Assuming just a brass barbed fitting?

I'm sure you meant to say INTAKE manifold. Yes the brass fitting will work fine. The trans just needs full manifold vacuum.

I have a C-6 in my 1965 and am using 1/4' fuel line from the intake manifold to the modulator and it seems to work fine. It's about a 3' run and I'm happy with the RPM shift range. It took a little fine tuning between the kickdown cable and the modulator, but its right where I like it.

so checking the local auto parts websites im not having luck with the 1/4" aluminum fuel line. hate to order it from like summit which is like 25ft or so. I think I seen speedway motors had 10 ft for about 15 bucks shipped.

really appreciate all the help

It can just be steel line. You should be able to get it at any parts house. And you should be able to borrow a tube bender from Autozone or O'Reilly's. if you don't have one.
