I searched and haven't found what I was looking for. When sitting idling in park lately I've noticed that my idle seem to lope or surge just a tad. Could just see the rpm needle move a bit. So I plugged my scan gauge that I have from when I had my 6.0 in an it idles at 650ish and you'll see it bounce to 700 or maybe just a tad over every once in a while. Any idea what could cause this? The only other issue I'm having is at cold start the SES light comes on but goes out after about a minute. My scan gauge doesn't read a code so I don't know what that is but thinking it's probably not related. On that subject though what are you guys using to read codes? Could the idle be a dirty IPR? Thanks for any help.
Mine started after I shorted out my alternator power stud to my HPOP with a long screwdriver on accident (long story). The only other thing that I did was take the check valves out of my HPOP fittings. But everyone says that there is no way that could cause it.
My first ever post. Great site and great people. About the topic, I am chasing the same problem for about one year now and came across this. When I have more time will try it also. I think my problem started when on long trip my battery light came on. With that on and off 50/50% of time I was able to finish my trip of about 250 miles before I came home and changed alternator. Do not have any scanner, so just changing sensors for now. Hope this will help somebody. Now will try to attach the info.
What are you intending to use, Android, laptop er what.
I've had terrible luck with buying ELM's left and right for the android. I ran Forescan on my laptop until my USB elm gave it up.
Keep us posted.

Yup, me too. Haven't had good luck with ELM 327. I have Forscan, so I bought the ELM327 with a switch on it. Well now it seems I need to get some sort of Android device to use it. I use IOS phones Ipad. I'm trying to buy a used tablet on CL for cheap, that way I can use this Ford Modified ELM327 obd2 device.
Well the idle surge is fixed for sure, still would like to see a little better start but it's definitely starts easier than before the icp. Also, the SES light at start up is no longer happening either. I think I'm going to put glow plugs in it this week and see if that helps the cold start. Mine are original and with 252k and 17 years of use I'm sure it can't hurt to do them. They are cheap enough and look pretty easy to do.
