Interference engine or not?
Is fords 302 engine an interference engine?

The valves may not bend over if the chain breaks, but I do think the valves will contact the pistons. Either way, timing chain failure is not common.

Why do you ask?

The valves will not contact the pistons so long as we are talking about a stock motor. There are no Ford engines with cam in the block that are interference fit from the factory.

Interesting. I heard most all engines were interference engines. Do you know if that goes back to the Ford 390 engine that was last put in Ford trucks about 1976?
