2007 F150 Kingranch 5.4 engine problems
I have F150 Kingranch 2007 bought it new and it currently has over 345,000 miles on it (all by me) a lot of road miles. About a month ago I decided to overhaul the engine as I was using a lot of oil and was just getting afraid of what might go wrong and cost a lot of money. The only things ever replaced or repaired were all accessory items, never had a head off or any timing chain issues but again I was afraid it was about to happen, so out came the engine, complete disassembly revealed very little wear cylinders and pistons were great, heads i could see where the oil was going valve seals but normal. Head the heads rebuilt, cleaned up the cylinder walls, all new bearings, all new timing parts on the front end, new oil pump, water pump, plugs, coils any way pretty much all new parts. Put it back together and had a real bad miss like loosing 1-2 cylinders and bad smell of raw fuel at idle and slow speed, this is always happening after warm engine and low rpm, and in gear. I can shift to neutral raise the rpm and it goes away. I opened the front end and found I was one tooth off the timing on the left bank, found it I thought. Put it back together runs better starts better but the miss re appeared.
After reading a lot on forums and such it appears my problem is most likely oil pressure related, indications in reading is that this engine came with a high volume, high pressure pump? Of course i ordered a over kit and it came with a stock unit, I haven't installed a direct reading gauge yet, my instrument gauge doesn't seem to fluctuate at all so Im sure its not right but always shows middle of the range.
I have ordered a replacement high volume, high pressure pump part number M-6600-F46 that is supposed to be a ford racing unit?? Frontend coming down again
. All due to the timing system being very sensitive to oil pressure.
Sorry for the long story but does this sound right and has anyone ever used this oil pump on a 5.4 before?
