HI all I'm looking to upgrade to a diesel and would like any input. My neighbor has a 2001 F250 lariat super cab long bed 4x4 auto it has 140xxx miles all stock religiously maintenanced and driven rarely and lightly (parked from November to May he goes to Florida every year) the paint is great has only one little dent in the tailgate and tiny little bubble of rust on left rear fender hasn't even broke through the paint yet. He said he would take $7200 for it cause I'm his neighbor and he likes me and it's $7800 to anyone else and he is firm. I'm not sure how good a deal it is or if it is at all. My 96 with the 460 is getting a bit tired and the 8mpg is tiring as well lol. Thanks in advance for any positive input.
People still love the 7.3L even though most of them are over 15 years old. Many for sale are marked up to take advantage of that.
The 2001 has an issue with a mechanical diode in the transmission which is something to watch out for (unless your neighbor has had it replaced).
How did your neighbor store it over the winter? Personally I would be concerned about it sitting for 6 months at a time. The O-rings are rubber and can dry out. When I was on deployment I would leave my truck with my father and he would drive it a couple of times a week to avoid any issues with it sitting for long periods of time.
I have had mine 17 years I have changed one wheel bearing one water pump and one set of break shoes and onel fuel seal and did all the work myself and that was it until last week and I'm searching for the to the problem now the transmission stop working no noise nothing just stopped but if I could recommend a truck that is it it is the best truck I have ever owned no regrets whatsoever
