i am in the process of puttin a 6" lift on my '87 f-150 and while i had the rear wheels off i thought i might as well go ahead and check the brakes (drums). i got the cover off the driver side brake fine but on the passenger side the cover thingy wouldnt come off, it felt like there was a spring holding it back, i have rebuilt many drum brakes before and didnt have anything like this happen. any help would be appreciated. thanks
There Is probably a ridge on the inside edge of the drum, when you try to pull it off the brakes hit the ridge and stop the drum from coming off.
Have you tried using a brake drum puller to take it off, it may help.
Try to take the drum off evenly, not lopsided, it will come off easier.
Also adjust the starwheel all the way into aid in getting the drum off, but make sure you adjust it back out once you get the drum off.
