After installing new glow plugs, glow plug relay, and valve cover gaskets my 2000 7.3 is throwing the 1395 code. Glow plug monitor Bank 1.
Anybody have input as to cause?
Checked all connections to relay. All tight. Read something about fusible link. Anybody know where that located?
One side of relay reads 0 volts.
Sounds to me like you might have a CA emissions truck, which uses a glow plug control module instead of the little round relay, it is a square box that has two sets of connectors with wires going to drivers and passenger side banks of glow plugs, I beleive that was the code I got when I forgot to hook the passenger side back up when I did my glow plugs 7 years ago. You have a regular relay that controls the air intake heater on the spider as well, that may be what you changed?
I helped biggreentruck with the parts swap. He definitely has a relay and not a GPCM. All was good when we got it back together, but codes came back a day later. I've read that the PCM reads from each side of the shunt and wants to see at least 39 amps going to each bank. Does anyone know what the shunt resistance is?
Somewhere, perhaps the Fusible Links at the Connection on the Relay may have been damaged. Also, could be the other Bank. Check all connections as this is most likely where your problem lies.
Perform a AMP Draw Test KOEO at either battery (+) when colder than 50*F. Then do each Lead from the GPR (they should be more than 39 each. Somewhere around 40). Look for connections spread at the connectors (including each Glow Plug).
The issue can also be in the New UVCH Connectors as well. To include a Defective Glow Plug But, certainly your seeking at least one connection. The AMP Draw test will show how many. ie: 60 AMP Drop = 2 Opens and so on.
IIRC the must use MORE THAN 39 AMPS EASCH SIDE (80 - 100 Total) or the DTC will Set.
If you have no Voltage on one lead from the GPR, replace the connector/Fusible Link for that Bank.
Thanks for that way over my head problem solve. You be Da Man!
Meanwhile I messed with it today. Gave me a chance to do a thorough look around. Found the red hose from the turbo to another "splice fitting" was just not connected. Easy plug back in. Then double checked the passenger side wire connector at the valve cover. Pushed it in, and heard a faint click.
Started the beast and "Thank You Jesus", truck started and no code.
So far, no codes.
