Finding Correct Radiator With VIN#

So here's the deal fellas. The radiators leaking in my 1991 F150.
I'd like to put a Motorcraft radiator in so I went to the Ford Trucks sight and punched my VIN in and quite a few radiators popped up.

Im pretty sure it's an 8005 radiator however I need the exact part number.
Reason I'm worried about it is the truck was a special order. The original owner built it to pull his camper.

It came with a 302, E4OD. I have to verify that it came with the HD Cooling system and Tranny Cooler. The radiator looks to be a double row so again I have to verify.

So, with the info given, is their somebody out there that could run, or look up my VIN and find me an exact part number? Maybe with an original shop manual, or..........?

I have an SRT challenger at home and was able to go to a websight, punch my VIN in and they sent me a build sheet.
Anything like that for our trucks?

Anyway, after looking for a while I think I found this but again, before I pay for shipping I need to verify.

Please help me out fellas. I'm not sure how much longer this thing is gonna hold out and it's my everyday truck to get me to work and back.
Thanks for any info I can get.

I read your thread and know that you want to find an exact replacement. I can't help you there, but if your willing to spend $700 if it's the right one, why not just buy a cheap one to keep you on the road for now. I needed to replace mine about three years ago and the local Advance Auto had one for $125. I am on their e-mail list and they sent me a $50 off any purchase over $100, so I got it for $75. I haven't had any issues with it, but I don't tow a lot.

I've been thinking of going that route but I've been burned so many times it worries me. It's hit or miss and most of the time I assure you I'll miss lol.

That being said, I just got back from a ford dealer parts counter and finally found somebody willing to put forth the effort for a little digging.

Specifically for a 1991 F150 XL
302ci
E4OD
A/C
Tranny cooler
Super Cooling System
F2TZ8005U Radiator

Now I just have to get this cross referenced.

Admittedly 700 is way to much cash so I'll have to investigate further.

Spectra CU1451 91 bucks on rockauto.com Incedentally the same radiator I installed two years ago in my truck. Comes with adapters for the transmission cooler lines; just make sure to use teflon tape on the pipe thread fittings.

As far as getting the right part number the person to ask is Number Dummy, find him and send him a private message. Don't get too tangled up in the online Ford catalog, yes they list a whole bunch of radiators but really it is only few different parts and the one you are after has been discontinued.

I went through this a few years ago, and I couldn't find a replacement Motorcraft unit. If you can find one the original unit uses copper instead of aluminum, and is a pretty high quality component compared to the aftermarket replacements. You could also look into having yours rebuilt, although that is an increasingly diminishing line of work.

There are also direct fit high end radiators available such as those from Griffin, but they are still spendy. Considering the cost benefit analysis, I bought a Murray brand replacement radiator and haven't had any trouble with it, nor did I have any problems with the one I put in my previous truck. I honestly liked the idea of getting something "better" but the Murray has done the job and that is all I need.

I just went through a rad search & came up with 2 basic aftermarket part #s/same $132 price regardless of source.

Was lucky enough to have local shop rod & tank original (no idea they did plastic tank/aluminum tube) for $82.50 that fixed problem.

Thanks for the reply gentleman. Been searching since I got the number.

RockAuto Mobile Catalog

I'm not familiar with most of the aftermarket names for these things and that makes me wonder.
I am familiar with Denso and I am wondering how the quality is on their unit. Seems all you guys have had descent luck with all different brands though.

I keep finding the F2TZ-8005-KA radiator.

Does anybody know the difference between the
F2TZ-8005-KA
And the
F2TZ-8005-U
I know the number is different which In turn means the part is different and probably won't work. Just living on a prayer I guess.

F2TZ-8005-KA replaced F2TZ-8005-U that replaced E5TZ-8005-G = 1985/96 F150/250 & Bronco 302/351W: Use with the Super Cooling radiator package.

This radiator is obsolete, there's only one available NOS .. Last MSRP: $705.08 / Dealer net cost: $458.30.

ALBIA MOTOR CO. in Albia IA has 1 = 641-932-5416. No other Ford dealer, no obsolete parts vendor has any.

When I replaced the radiator in my '89 a few years ago. Buddy at parts store asked if I wanted the HD unit. It was 2 core instead of one. For a few bucks more I put it in. No big deal, just had to finesse my stock shroud mounts to work with the thicker radiator.

I for one like Fomoco parts too. But sometimes it just isn't worth the hassle or much added expense.

I put a 3 row aluminum radiator from Champion in my F-250 last fall, seems well built and works great.

It may not be exactly the same, but Ford has designed it so that it can be used in place of the OE part that came with the truck. I used to see stuff like this when I worked on F-18's. The older the aircraft was the more likely that the part it came with had been updated at some point. This would be reflected in a couple ways on the parts list, some times with a new part number.

Ask the seller to take a picture of the other side of the radiator. You can't tell if there are ports for the transmission cooler. See if he can take a picture of a Ford part number on the unit too.

I'm in the process of establishing communications with the seller. I also asked if he would give me measurements. We'll see. Still not to happy about the price, but what's a piece of mind worth to you.
