Hello my fellow bull nose brothers!! Long time no talk i had an account a few years back but i can not find it! Anyways i come to yall for help because i had to buy an aftermarket stereo! I went ahead and got Bluetooth because i dont have cup holders and my phone usually just slides around. Anyways the stereo will not keep memory. I have wired to every wire i have. I read that there is supposed to be a lime green wire but i do not have one!!! Is there anyone that has dealt with this! Thanks guys!
Yeah... I have a 1981 and the wiring is very similar. Had a bunch of wiring diagrams up here on the web someplace but they got deleted, I feel bad about that and what those guys are saying is right... Light Green/Yellow Stripe = Always On, Fused, 15A power. This feeds the cab interior lamps, radio memories, other such accessories (as equipped).
Those guys are right - whatever wire on the aftermarket radio requires such power, an easy place to find it is that LG/Y wire. You have one, you just can't find it.
Saying you don't have one is wrong, they ALL have one; you just can't find yours.
Do you have a factory clock? If not, the plug for that is to the right of the HVAC panel near the ashtray level but behind the trim, and clipped to the dash infrastructure.
There is a company that makes a harness that plugs into the trucks factory harness but has modern radio/head unit colors. Don't remember what brand it is but I have it.
I found this wire hanging loose outside of the firewall. I mean its lime green and not being used should that work?
Yes, you have located the correct circuit; that plug there is to power the optional underhood lamp (pic below). If you look at that wire closely, you should be able to discern two colors.
That same circuit exists inside the cab, just gotta trace that wire.
