I have a 99.5 F-350 4x4 Crew Cab Power Stroke Diesel 7.3 automatic transmission with 318,000 miles on it. As of late I have been having a problem that I can't figure out. A couple months ago we went camping pulling my 24' toy hauler out to the desert. On way home it began to rain and was a little chili so the heater/defroster came on and the wipers were going. After a little bit the "check engine light" came on and the truck started to lurch and act like it was going to cut off! We still had a few miles to go to get home so I babied the truck till we made it home. Backed trailer in to driveway turned off truck dropped trailer and went to move truck and "check engine light" was off and truck seemed to be running its normal smooth self? For a couple weeks truck running great and then on another rainy night me and the wife are going out to dinner and again wipers are going and again the truck lurches and DOES actually turn off! Next morning same thing keeps lurching and cutting out (does re-fire right away) on the way to work. Truck sits all day and then rain has stopped go out to start the truck and it is completely dead not even a click. Have towed to shop and ends up both batteries are dead and alternator toast. Replace everything truck runs great again....until another rainy day! Raining hard and have the wipers going and BAM! Truck starts to lurch and turn off! So has anybody here heard of this being a problem with these trucks and what is the fix? New wiper motor? is it the switch? The trucks computer (brain)? HELP
If you have a tuner on the truck there is a good chance that the wiper motor is causing electrical interference. Rerouting the cable sometimes helps.
There is also the possibility that it is causing interference on the CPS which is making the truck stumble.
Check and see if you have any damp areas in the cab on drivers side. Leaking windshield can allow water to drip on the Gem behind the fuse panel and and cause glitches.
When was the last time you changed your CPS.
Check grounds in the engine bay, especially on drivers side
This is a classic symptom of an aftermarket CPS. Have you installed an aftermarket one? OEM only recommended for sensors on these truck, they don't seem to like aftermarket sensors at all......
I have not changed anything on this truck. I purchased truck in April of 2015 to pull my toy hauler. It has been a good running truck without a hitch up until this current event. The previous owner may have possibly done changes? He did have a tuner (Superchips) but I do not have it currently installed. I will check for dampness in the firewall and floorboard areas. How much does a CPS run and should I just buy an OEM from Ford?
Like Rikster said you can get one from Riff Raff. From Ford will work. Just don't go to your local parts store. These engines do not like aftermarket sensors.
That's why I asked if you had changed it. There are quite a few threads in the archives were someone had put in an aftermarket CPS and started having the exact same problem -- the wipers causing engine stalling issues.

That's a possibility there. My dad chased electrical gremlins in his for bout a year before finding out the windshield was leaking.
There does seem to be a leak on passenger side? I guess I will have to find and fix that....and I guess a new CPS is in my near future. Thanks for the advise everyone. I am very new to the diesel game...everything is a new learning experience for me with this truck and I really love this truck!
