2017 Limited availability

I'm beginning a search for a March-April purchase. I drove a 2017 Limited today which I really liked. Two dealers told me if I see what I want I should buy it. They said each dealer is only allotted so many per year model and it can be difficult to find one on short notice. The other option is to order which I could do. Am I getting good information from my dealers about availability? I've found what I want but not ready to purchase at this time. Any thoughts appreciated.

Yes, Limited models are very rare. i don't even think I've seen more than a couple in the 2015+ generation. So, buy one if you find one, or order. They have nearly everything on them so there a very few options. The only real differences would be color and 4x4 vs 4x2.

Since I have not purchased new in some time I didn't know how rare they were. Can you really trust the dealer when he tells you that? I'd rather get my information here. Thanks!

They can also look around other dealers inventory and source one. My parents dealer sourced their new Edge about 250 miles away and went and got it.

I was told the same thing by dealers in my area about the King Ranch I was looking for. I only saw a handful of KRs at the 10-15 dealers I went to. And at those 10-15 dealers I saw exactly zero Limited's, and I've only ever seen one on the road, so they are definitely rare, at least around here (Portland, OR).

sign up for EAA and get an X-plan pin and it should be a flat rate on the price.

The problem is if another dealer has one, they probably won't trade to your dealer. If they do, the dealer that had it would probably keep their holdback and charge for shipping. Your dealer would have to have something in stock they want to trade for the Limited for it to work.

I never thought they were hard to find, but I just checked my local dealer (one of the largest volume in WA state). Out of 130+ F-150s in stock, they only have two Limited's. But I think that's more of a "demand" issue than supply. Ford would make a ton more Limiteds if the demand was there. There are significantly higher profit margins on the higher trims. So while dealerships may try to stay high on price because they "only have two", I bet they're just posturing. Chances are those higher trim models are on the lots longer than others.

Since you're not in a rush, just shop around and get a feel for the market conditions.

Those are all valid points. I am anxious to have a new vehicle but all the hassles and decisions will drive you nuts!

The "final" price of the XLT model is a little more certain because they sell so many of them. If a dealership sells one or two limited per year, the salesman may actually not know right away what their "bottom dollar" price is.

Plus, if you told them that you "have to have" the limited, they know you have very little leverage, since there are so few of them out there.

If it was me, I'd pretend to be shopping for a lariat, and then casually ask about pricing for a limited after I had a invoice minus rebated kind of number I was happy with.

That's certainly worth considering but I've already shown my hand.

You're still fine. Just tell them you realized the Limited is outside your price range and are thinging of Lariats. They'll work it for you. And if you've got time, just talk to the dealerships towards the end of (each) month. Let them know you are working with multiple dealers.

Our dealer in town had one a couple of weeks ago. Went by today & it's gone. Didn't take long to sell.

My dealer usually has 3-5 Limiteds on hand, plus plenty of King Ranch and Lariats ALL with 5.5 beds. finding anything other than a XL or the occasional XLT with 6.5 bed. I want a Lariat with a 6.5 and Max Tow. I suppose I will have to order one next trade!
