ordered a truck with the trailer camera but no GN prep package (due to a variety of reasons...mostly the wife liking the B&W hitches) so i would need to get a plug installed in the bed anyway.
So would it be feasible for a shop to take the 7pin&camera plug assembly from the bumber and installed into the bed side (getting line-x afterwards as well) and eventually get the standard trailer plug mudule (4&7 pin) to place into the bumper?
I can't think of any issues
p.s. we don't own (nor won't in the future) any BP trailers so i won't really need the camera plug on the bumper
I have seen one other person that has already done this. I'll be doing the same Monday. From what I've gathered, the wiring harness for the trailer camera is too short to reach the plug in the bed. Your installer will need to splice in a 22" inch extension into the wire to reach the plug assembly in the bed. Done correctly, there won't be any problems. Just a little extra work.
I have seen 2, 1 post here and 1 on an rv forum, Where they cut and spliced harness to get into bed. would rather not cut harness and have been looking for 12 pin connectors that would match harness to make a jumper.Has anyone else looked for connectors or have a knowledgeable source.
I was interested in doing the same, but I have been concerned that the 12 pin camera jack might be too deep to fit in bed side-wall. The 7 pin trailer connector I have there already has a short right-angle molded into it on the back side and is not as long as the 7 pin in the bumper. From what you're saying, if others have already done this, it must not be a problem.
I am working on moving my plug to the bed. All of the connectors used on the camera system (and the connector under the bed) are Molex adapters. I have found a source and ordered a set of 12 pin adapter and pins. I have verified the physically plug into each other but I have not rigged my wiring yet.

Agreed! I think many of us will want to see how this project progresses. For anyone using their SD to pull a fifth wheel or gooseneck, the idea of a separate cable hanging down to the bumper and banging against the tailgate is just not acceptable in the long run.
Right now my battle is I am trying to interface the existing camera system I installed on my 5er 2 years ago with the Ford system. I have the pin outs for my trailer system and in the process of trial and error on the Ford side. These connectors I ordered should make my next round of experimentation easier.
I am also interested. I also do not want to have to splice unless absolutely necessary. I have no issues with an "extension cord". I have a 5th wheel I tow and definitely would love to have the camera on it, it could possibly save my marriage
Definitely keep us posted.

Solder the connections and coat them with liquid electrical tape and you will have no problems.
I'm not worried about splicing. Done correctly, it is a good, solid, weatherproof connection.
I soldered my connections and shrink wrapped them. Then I wrapped the whole bundle with quality electrical tape and encased it with wire loom. It did take pretty much time to do. There is enough of room between the rear fender and the truck box wall for the depth of the 7 pin female plug and the wiring harness plug. I removed the single 7 pin and installed the dual trailer/camera plug using a 6"X7" 1/8" piece of aluminum bolted to the original fastening locations.
