Tranny Gremlin

So looking for a little help with a transmission issue. I posted a thread earlier related to the issue. The background is my transmission went into limp mode while plowing a little while ago. First thing I tried was cleaning and inspecting all the connections. In doing so found some damaged pins on the solenoid pack. I dropped the pan, replaced the pack and refilled with fluid. Also inspected the plug and everything looked good visually.

It seemed to fix the problem for about a day then the OD light started flashing again. However it shifts fine. I pulled the codes and got 93 (coast clutch circuit failure) and 99 (epc circuit failure). I'm stuck driving the truck as I have no other vehicle and while driving today I noticed if i'm stopped with brake on while in gear, sometimes the Tach will just quit. As soon as I let off the brake it will come back to normal.

The weird thing is that when the tach dies the OD light stops blinking. And starts again when the tach comes back. I just replaced the Tach sensor last week with the ford part and I checked the connection as well. So I dont think my problem is there.

To me it seems like an electrical issue and just looking for guidance on where to start. I'm pretty good with a wrench but pretty bad with a multimeter so I dont like to just start poking around other than looking for obvious external damage.

Truck is an 94 f350 cclb 4x4 E4OD

Also as a side note I am working on diagnosing this on my own but I work nights plowing and we are in the middle of some major storms. So i figured in the meantime I would ask the opinion of some people who know way more than I do about these transmissions.

I also don't think it's the trans itself going out because the fluid was nice and red and clean. There was only about a thimble full of sludge on the magnet. And i opened the old filter and there wasnt even enough metal shavings to cover your pinky nail. This fluid hasn't been changed in 33,000 mi. (Little late I know)

I could be wrong, but it sounds like you have part of your wiring going to ground. It's a pain, but you may have to check your wiring and connectors with a Vohm meter to find the ground.
Good luck,
Jim

You may be right. While plowing last night the light at some point stopped blinking. And hasn't come back yet. Either the light burned out or the codes are gone. I'll check codes hopefully later today to see if they are gone.

Well it took awhile but I finally got the time to dig into this. I pulled the plug from the solenoid pack over to the drivers side so i had more room and ripped off the insulation and tape. Sure enough the wires were very brittle and the sheathing was wearing off on a couple. I ordered the plug repair kit for both the solenoid pack and the MLPS since those wires looked the same.

Spliced them all over carefully one at a time and wrapped it in about 3 rolls of tape (this was a mistake lol) and put it all back together. Well it cleared all codes except 99 (EPC circuit failure).

I took it for a drive and it worked perfectly for about 5 miles. Then suddenly it wouldnt shift out of 1st gear unless i manually shifted to second, got up to about 30 mph, then put it back in drive.

When I got home I ran the codes again and came up with 99 and 92. I am assuming my connector got loose causing the 92 since it worked fine pre plug replacement. I'll look into it tomorrow. However not sure about the 99. It threw that code previously and replacing the plug didn't help. Anyone know where to look at this from the other end? I know the solenoid is good it's brand new.
