I was once told that you could identify a code using an ohm meter. My check engine light is on in my 1997 Sport and I would like to check it.

You're not quite that lucky. You can use an ohmmeter to check codes on OBD-1 equipped vehicles, but OBD-1 gave way to OBD-2 in in 1996 model year vehicles and newer. OBD-2 requires a scanner or other code reader to access trouble codes. You may be able to get a parts house like Autozone to read the trouble codes for you.
