Still smell fuel

I have been smelling fuel on and off for the last few weeks. I thought it was the fuel bowl drain valve so I ordered the kit for the whole fuel bowl from diesel o-rings. I did the rebuild this morning and I don't see any visual leaks. Still smell a strong odor of diesel though. The lower engine cradle is all wet and the valley is still a little wet too. Could I still have a leak and if so where to look? Could it be just wet still from draining the fuel bowl and needs time to go away?

If it's warm enough where you're at spray some Simple Green or Purple Power on it & wash it with a water hose, if not it will take what seems like forever for the fuel to dry up.

Yea it's no where near warm enough. Ambient temp right now is about 15 for the high. Hopefully that's all it is, left over fuel. Thanks for the reply

Your pass side fuel line could be leaking. There is a clamp on the valve cover that wears a hole in the line. When mine was leaking I replaced the line and got rid of the clamp.

I use Brake Kleen to clean the valley. No waster mess and quicker.

Those little divets in the valley can hold lots of Brakleen.

Brake Kleen, air blowing, repeat a couple of times. That or engine degreaser and flush generously. Dump twice the strength of recommended dye in the fuel and drive. Watch with blacklight.

Check that your fuel filter lid is tight. I had a leak I couldn't find on my Excursion, and it turned to be the filter lid wasn't tightened properly.

Good point. Check out if the gasket is in the right direction. Ask me how I know.

Well put about 75 miles on it today and the fuel smell is not as noticeable. Maybe its just needing to give it a day or two. Ill keep you guys posted.

Could it simply be residual fuel from the previous leak which is resting in the hollows in the valley? They don't drain completely by themselves.
