I feel bad for you guys with inspections, we've never had any safety inspections and they did away with emissions testing 4-5 years ago. If I lived outside city limits I would be able to get permeant registration since the Ex is older then 7 years. That is a one time fee of $170 also.
The Chevelle is getting perma-tagged once it's running. In Texas you're allowed to source vintage, same-year as the vehicle plates and use them so long as the condition is good. The wife snagged a set of Texas plates from 1971 in great shape, so they'll be coming with me to the DMV once the car is up and running so I can get them assigned to the car. I could do a one-time permanent registration, but that requires classic car status and associated limitations and insurance, such as a whopping 1000 miles a year MAXIMUM. Which is garbage, I used to DD the Chevelle and the X was the side vehicle for long hauls, oversize loads, etc.

This year in WA ours was aboot $85.00. That is up about $30.00 from last year, since the legislators added a new fee for something!! I suspect that they will add more "fees" (not taxes!!) in not so many years.
Many years ago, an EX probably would have been around $650-$750 per year based on value, age, and other ways!! Then we the people voted to set a one size fits all license fee or tax. That lasted just a few years, going up each year as the bone heads in Olympia found new and more devious ways to skirt the orig intent (no new taxes without a vote of the peeps) of the new license law. They are still at it. And practically everything they say is going to some good program such as highway maintenance, you wouldn't know it!!!

When I was still stationed in WA it was just $50/yr/vehicle since at the time everything was older than 10 years.
