Hey guys, have a new-to-me, 2012 STX with basic Sync. Have an iPhone 5. Both Sync and iPhone have latest software, (updated sync software this past week end).
I can make and receive calls and get text via sync. And can even go through the process of selecting one of the "canned messages", and press OK to send, but get " send error" in response on the sync system display.
On my phone I've tried toggling the notifications on/off, and on sync setting have toggled map setting on/off.
Congrats on the new STX! iPhones do not have the capability to send text messages, only receive them. To share general ideas with Ford Motor Company on how we can enhance our products and services, please visit http://social.ford.com

Cara, thanks for the response, although not what I expected or wanted to hear.
Wow, that seems odd. So there is no setting of the phone, and/or Sync system that will allow it ?
Seems that with all the Ford/Syncs and iPhones in use, someone would address the issue.
Sync is Microsoft, iPhone is Apple. I guess sometimes they just don't play well together.
I don't buy this, and see it as a "cop out".
SYNC is a Ford product that they promoted to have and do certain features and that was sold for good money, doesn't matter who designed it, it's a Ford product.
Since my first post above, I have discovered 2 other shortcomings, in my view, with the SYNC system.
1. SIRI doesn't work when the phone is paired. SIRI access is handy, for hands free, when you need last minute directions, etc, while driving.
2. The maps app audio is muted unless you enable Bluetooth audio via SYNC. This means that what ever media, FM, CD, etc, you were using is now unavailable.
Now I know that Ford can't keep SYNC up to the latest tech level for every SYNC vehicle on the road, but when vehicle is only a couple years old, all features should work. It's only software, not like your have to install the latest transmission.
Since I bought my SYNC equipped F150 used, and the SYNC system wasn't on my "must have"check list, I don't view that I paid much for it, but I can still want it to work.
lets also put it this way...whose DOES work and with what PHONE are you using as nothing in Owners Manual says wont work with Apple of XYZ products. Just would be nice if it worked. In same boat as OP a bought used not very.. 2 years if that... but it would be nice if all worked.
Im not gonna lose sleep over it or stop and have a tatrum...just saying would be nice if it worked or specified what products works with or does not work with is all.
Two edged sword : maybe Sync is perfect and the mfr of the other equipment should be hammered for lacking the software needed to be compatible. Just sayin'..... A literal hammering of a cell phone is fine with me, I can live without one. But since SWMBO insists I have one (particularly for my travels) I do. I'm not a fancy electronical technogeek about such things so my primitive Android and my basic Sync seem to work fine together for phone calls and texts via Bluetooth. My Sync with Bluetooth works equally well with my Garmin gps. Anything else I'll pull off the road- things like using maps, yakking with Google, searching for stores, etc. is for me too distracting. I learned long ago that I'm really dangerous if I'm not looking where I'm going and paying attention to what I'm doing. Think "Mellow Rainman" .
