I was just wondering about a tow pakages for the Sport Trac? I own a 2001 SportTrack and have been towing a small camper under 2,00lb's. Now we are going to be buying a new, heaver camper, I am guessing around 3,000lb's. I never really worried about having a tow package before but do wonder about the extra weight? I know the Truck is rated for up to 5,000lbs, but I would never go to anything that would be over 3,000lb's
I don't remember ever seeing any tow package when we were buying or at the Ford website. Is there a tow package for the SportTrack? Can you do an after market tow package? what is a ballpark figure if you can do an after market tow package
Hi Stlitz! I just bought a 2003 Sport Trac XLT Premium. Ford's web site says that the tow package is standard equip on all 2003 models. Seems that the tow pack on this truck is just the 3500# step-bumper and a 4-way plug for the lights. Ford has a Class 3 hitch for this truck for about $170.00. I just ordered all the parts to do the aftermarket myself as no reputable RV service tech will touch this trucks wiring because it is not pre-wired for the brake controller. Got the hitch from DrawTite-Hitches.com for $125.00 plus shipping. Site says all holes are pre-drilled average 20 minutes installation. Best price for the top-of-the-line brake controller, Tekonsha Prodigy from rjays.com $106.99 free shipping. RJays also sells 7-way plug w/brass terminals for $5.41 and the bracket for $1.20 all free shipping. DrawTite has the complete wiring package for the brake controller for $27.15. Total $265.75 plus shipping charges from DrawTite.
