I just bought a 66ford f100 off a guy that recomended me to this forum. He put a 302 in this truck and it has a bad vibration. He said the engine was an 80 model and the flywheel came off a 351w. Didn't know what model the 351 was.
What I am wondering is if the Weights on the flywheel could be causing the vibration. Are the weights the same and how could I tell what the problem is exactly.
The 302 runs great, but when you rev it up it has a major vibration in it. The guy put a cam and 4bbl intake on the 302 but didn't do anything to the bottom end. Going down the road it is smooth untill you get the engine (just guessing) around 2,500rpm's.
Any suggestions on what could be the problem, and if the flywheel could be the culprit.
One other thing. The engine drops about one full inche from the drivers side to the passenger side. The motor mounts look to be in good shape, so what would cause this drop? Both sides are bolted in good.
Is there a decal on the driverside valve cover, if so it will have the year on it. You can also check the part number on the harmonic balancer. What engine was originally in the truck. Maybe the engine frame brackets are for a different engine family.
ok........ here we go, the engine that you have is an 82 - up obviously by the vibrations that you are having, you have a pre 80's 302/351 flywheel with a early 80- up engine, the balance is not the same, 28 oz on the flywheel and 50 oz on the harmonic, or.... even, early 80's engine with older harmonic and flywheel, either or is possible
I took a good look at the engine. It has a sticker on it that shows it was a Remanufatured motor and has the date 1986 on it. So I guess it is a late model 302 and the vibration is coming from the Flywheel.
Can you all recomend a good site that would have the correct flywheel? I would really appreciate it. I tried Summit, but they only show that they have the fly wheel, but dont show what year or weight they are. Couldn't find them at JcWhitney's either.
I didn't get mine from NAPA cause they weren't open on Sunday and I was in a pinch (got it from Autozone), but most parts stores carry them for under $50 around here (NE).
