I have 1981 f250 4wd. I rebuilt carb and removed smog system . Now if i drive my truck its like the carb is getting flooded . How do i go about leaning it out or if thats even the problem . Anyone else ever have this problem
I rebuilt it because the whole fuel system was rusted. So i replaced fuel tank, filters, fuel sending unit, fuel pump. So after i drive it and then turn it off, it hesitates to start. Ive done spark plugs as well . And its a 351m 2150 carb
OK so kind of hard or is hard to start after it you drive it some and shut down.
How long is it off for?
Are you giving the gas pedal any pumps and if so how many and are you holding it part way down, all the way down or not down at all?
Maybe you only push it half way and try and start it?
Before starting motor pop the lid off the air filter, move the throttle some and see if the choke closes. Depending how long it has been off the choke may or may not be closed let us know how long motor off and if choke closed.
If the choke is not closed look down in to the carb opening to see if any fuel is dripping down inside it.
There are some posts of "hot start" issues may want to do a search for it for more information.
Let us know what you find or have any questions.

Do you have a large pipe coming out of the front top of the carb (you should). If this is plugged off when you removed the emissions hoses, take the plug off and leave it open, then see if it helps it. I will be vindicated if it does help it.
did you pull the vacuum line off the economizer valve an check for gasoline? If they fail it can drain the bowl into your intake manifold. All it takes is one backfire to trash them.
Does your carb even have an economizer? It'll be screwed into the bottom of the bowl if it does.

Good point! Rep's for that.
The 2150's I've seen on the M's have all had the external vacuum source shown at the very bottom of the Internal Systems tab here: Motorcraft 2150 - ???Gary's Garagemahal. So it is easy to check if the power valve is blown by pulling the hose when you kill the engine and see if gas runs out.

Rep's as well good suggestion and some thing that is often over looked when flooding out happens on the M.
