Parking Brake Equalizer Position?

Hi, I have a '49 F-1 and am rebuilding the whole parking brake system.
My question is - What is the function for the adjustable slot in the equalizer and what position is it suppose to be tightened down in. Any information what be appreciated. Thanks! Kevin

If we are talking of the same slot, the bolt that fits in the slot has a shoulder on it so when tightened down, the bracket is still able to slide in the slot. It is not for making any manual adjustments. The only adjustments near that piece is for lengthening or shortening the two rear brake cables.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. What is the purpose of that bracket being able sliding freely in that slot?

I believe it is to help equalize the pull from the center cable to the two rear cables. Perhaps someone else can get into the engineering part of it.

It is hard to find good info on that system but I think that it has been covered pretty well on this forum. It's a common source of confusion. You can search by "part brake". Her is but one:

I replied to that linked thread, but thought I'd put it here too. Could one of you who has the shouldered bolts please measure them carefully and post the dimensions and diameters? I'm sure we can come up with a new alternative. For one thing, it appears a bushing could be slid over a standard bolt to make the shoulder.
