Please help with side step/gas rod issue...
Hi,
I have searched high & low for a replacement gas rod for the side step on my 2011 F-150. Ford will only sell me the entire step for about $400. The small gas rod is about a $20.00 part but no one seems to carry it. It has a Fomoco part number (554545 0300N 244/11 A 21) but I cannot find it anywhere.
I tried finding a replacement on Guden Gas Springs but nothing seems to be the exact size in terms of Stroke, Extended Length, Compressed length, and force (Guden did help me a little by suggesting the "0300N" in the Fomoco part number was 300 newtons which is about 70 lbs of force)
Surely someone else has tried to replace one of these gas rods? no?

You mean the strut for the side step?
Welcome to FTE BTW. I'd be surprised if Ford separates the parts on that step, it's an expensive thing to have to replace.
I think before I put out the $$$ for a step, I'd try anything aftermarket that seems close to fitting the step and being able to retract it.
