Igor, The Tymar will probably not make much difference in the smoke. Although it does flow air better, the main reason to change it is better air filtering. You will nitice an increase in the sound of the turbo (whistle) when you accelerate with the Tymar. Another mod that helps the engine to breathe better is a larger downpipe comming off the turbo. Shop around the prices vary a lot, I think I paid $175-200 and I paid too much. Oh yeah while you are under the truck doing the down pipe make shure the cat doesn't come off and get replaced with a piece of cat delete pipe. They do breathe better with that delete pipe too.
Me and all my buddies are always seeing what we can do to get MORE smoke, aint nothing like it, when someone is riding your butt down the road, and you mash into it.
And to think it took "Q" and crew to get a little smoke screen for Bond, James Bond, on his little Aston Martin. You got it with a Diablo....
I had the Banks kit done and it smokes a bit under full throttle, seems be less smoke if I keep mashing the pedal often, but am told to expect this with the different fuel curves with most aftermarket chips (Banks, Diablo, etc.) allowing more fuel into the engine. It's a little smoky, not like those guys pulling sleds under the lights on Saturday nights at the local fairgrounds, but the key is the color - blue (oil) or white/gray (water) are of course BAD. Black is good, more black is more good when coupled with set your butt back in the seat acceleration on a 9900lb truck.
If the smoke bothers you, take the chip out, but it shouldn't hurt the stroker any. -X04
I have a PSD with 24K miles and recently installed the Diablo 54/78 chip. I have a K&N also.
I noticed the exhaust did smoke a bit when I "mashed" the pedal as well. I contacted Ken @ Motorhaven and he reassured me that the smoke is common with the chip. The chip makes it dump more fuel, etc.
In the stock mode it rarely smokes at all.
Thanks guys, the smoke doesn't bother me at all as long as it won't harm my truck. I also installed the tymar setup what a difference! next step guages and full 4" exhaust.
I'm gonna get jumped for this, and I hope it doesn't take the thread in another direction - but what exactly did you notice by putting the Tymar on with (or without) your chip.
I'm not getting into paper vs. gauze, I just want an honest opinion from somebody who recently laid out the jack and installed one with a chipped stroker. Any hitches with the install? Delivery? Helpful suggestions are appreciated.
Oh yeah, the smoke from the engine is a little less noticeable with the windows rolled down - the grin on your face stretches your eyelids closed, while your ears fill with the melody of spendy rubber being shredded....
I put the tymar on with out the chip to see if I noticed any differance in performance and it does seem more responsive, the sound is awesome you can hear the air being drawn into the motor it does also stay dry I drove through heavy rain all day last week and it stayed bone dry. I'm going to put the chip back in and see what difference that makes and get back to ya.
Mine smokes big time! only when i get on it hard till the turbo spools up. Mainly just off start. I have a diablo predator, afe intake and banks monster exhaust. Should i worry about this??? Other than that she runs great and get 15 miles to the gallon with an 8 inch lift and 38`s on the highway using cruise control.
Moto, it's not too bad to have it smoke until the turbo gets spooled up. It's not getting enough air and too much fuel right when you mat it then when the turbo spools up it pumps some more air in there and everything is a-ok. As long as you keep the pre turbo egt's under about 1270 no sweat. Let it smoke all day.
Thanks Bro!
Thats exactly what i wanted to hear. I think the tymar i had on breathed a little better and smoked less than with the afe setup. I just didnt like the air flutter noise with the tymar. I am thinking about trying some more air flow mods or maybe the tymar with a new turbo housing or impeller. What do you think? Would that get rid of the flutter/surge sound? Sounds like its whipping the air or somewthing?
Moto117 you need a wicked wheel. It is a aftermarket replacement compressor wheel, it uses your stock housing, it will solve your flutter/surge prublems. Then you will really enjoy the smoothe whistle comming from the Tymar.
I have a Diablo 54/78 chip, Tymar intake, and Banks exhaust and when I roll into the throttle without much boost I can make the guy behind me wished he had not been tailgating me The truck runs well and I personally am not concerned with a little smoke under hard accel from time to time.
I agree! I like smoking out the tail gaters as well. its so funny, like revenge with out flipping the bird at them. It`s a lot of smoke and i notice they back off if they got a nicely painted car, like it is poisonous to the paint or something. LOL!
