I don't know if we are talking about the same thing, but on most Explorers there was a plug for the trailer wiring harness there so you could plug a wiring harness in for trailer lights - then you wouldn't have to split into the wires themselves.
You might want to take a test light and see if you have power on it for turn signals and brake lights...
I am using the trailer/camper adapter already for just that purpose. It is on the LEFT side. I am inquiring about the a similar, or even identical plug on the RIGHT side.
I have attached a test light and get zero response for any effort. Near as I can tell, it is not connected to anything at the moment.
Your truck should come with a 4-prong trailer wiring harness. Once you have that plugged in, you can be able to plug in the lights from the trailer. You don't need to find the right side because that's all you need to wire up a trailer.
