Hello all.
I know its not the time of the year to be thinking about snow but i was wondering what you plow guys thought about 3hr hi-way trips with the plow hanging off the front of my truck. You see,I have a camp in NH about 3 hrs from home.My driveway is a half mile long and i dont want to pay someone else to plow it for me.Will the weight in the truck for a long ride hurt any thing?Just wondering if anyone else does this sort of thing and had any problems.
For starters you are really not supposed to go to fast with a plow on the truck. I think the safe speed is 45 to 55 mph. And the more important issue is engine cooling the way the plow channels the air most trucks will actually overheat on the highway. Turbulence is created in front of the truck at speed over 20 mph causing no air through the radiator. Depends on the truck.
If you have the w or x springs you should be ok with weight..
I wouldn't do it..
I'm with 99f350sd, thats a big haul with a plow dangling of the front. I dread anything more than a 20 minute drive, although this is the only truck I have had that hasn't got hot on a highway.
Would I do it?? probably once if I had to but not regularly.
If you run it close to the ground and angle it a little you should be ok for cooling. However this will play havoc on your handleing and catch a sort of sidewind effect. Any time you plan to do an extended drive the blade should be mechanicly held up with a safety chain in case of hyd psi loss. Most plows have these on them. In any case its better to throw the blade in the bed.
