If you order the "Tow Technology Bundle", you get a bunch of stuff:
1. Adaptive steering
2. Automatic high beam
3. Rain sensing wipers
4. Lane departure warning
5. Ultimate trailer tow camera (360 degree view)
I've not heard of any complaints with item 2, automatic high beams.
Do they automatically dim when an oncoming car approaches? Do they automatically go to bright lights when there are no other oncoming cars? Obviously there is some sort of photo cell eye judging intensity of oncoming lights.....does it work like it's supposed to or do you occasionally have to dim/bright the lights manually?
My truck is on the way so I don't know anything about it. Does this Tow technology bundle actually deliver in all these bells and whistles?
I was just playing with my automatic high beam lights tonight going to and from Church. They do work very well. They go to low beam if you're going under about 35 mph or if the camera picks up the headlights or taillights of another vehicle, or in town.
You can override it and kick the highs on while at low speeds if you want.
My wife LOVES this feature and so far, it has been reliably accurate.
They work pretty damn good... I never like to use hi beams as sometimes I'd forget they are on and blind people. Doesn't happen anymore. They go on when they sense no headlights coming at you or tailights in front of you
Like the other replies...I think they are good too. I was sceptical when I ordered.
They work when they sense headlight really far away.
You can turn off the high beams any time by using the high beam switch and they will go back to automatic when the next car goes by.
The only thing I don't like is you look like a bit of a dummy when it's a hilly road and the car in front of you keeps disappearing and the high beams are turning on and off every time the car reappears.
And even if you manually turn on the high beams when a car does come it will still switch to low; fairly far away, as was mentioned. Or so I experienced in my dad's new F150 Platty.
They work grate for me, only time I had to turn them off was in a blizzard some times it has a hard time with tail lights and go off and on but other then that there flawless!
that said it has always been a pet peeve when people assume low beams are dim and high beams are bright! Lol they are both the same brightness just pointed low or high
I got a "Merry Christmas" middle finger last night because my low beams were so bright. For a moment I thought "Oh Crap",,,I'm high beamimg this guy, but they were on low beam. The LED's are very bright lights. People wave at me all the time to let me know! (one finger wave)
To the Original Poster: the auto high beams use a camera to look for oncoming headlamps or tail lamps or even street lights. They work better than they did 5-6 years ago. Problem areas include corners (the camera looks straight ahead) and constantly turning high beam on and off as you catch up to other traffic. Additionally, I generally drive faster than 32 mph in town and annoyingly the brights are switching on and off down Main Street.
You might also notice that at dusk the lights will take a while to switch automatically to high beam when the sky is still bright and the land seems dark enough that you'd like to have them on but they will eventually kick in.
A little trick to change them on the fly from on to off, don't go into settings and uncheck the box unless you want them off for good, they only work when the headlights are in the auto mode so simply turn your headlights to the "on" position (not auto) and the high beams won't be auto anymore until you switch back
Mine have stopped functioning. Even though headlight switch is on auto, and auto high beam option is turned on, my auto high beams are no longer automatic, 100% manual now. Any thoughts why?
I hate them on my wife's Expedition so I didn't order them on my truck. Many times they turn on then right off when they sense a car. Plenty of times just appears to the other driver your flashing your high beams at them. Easy to just manually turn them on when you need them. This auto stuff is getting out of hand. I see more people driving around without headlights on than ever before.

If you have a question about your truck and a specific failure it’s experiencing, just start a new, properly titled thread. Don’t revive a 4+ year old thread that’s about the general utility of the feature.
