True with the obvious exceptions being sport/super cars which have no limiter and can go as fast as their horsepower allows. Most cars are limited between ~130-155mph. The super duties are limited so low (under 100mph) because of the speed limit on the tires. Also, let's be real, even if you like to speed, you should NOT be going over 100 in a big truck like this. It's just not built for that.

Oh, I agree fully. And also note some vehicles are "drag limited" meaning when they top out, it isn't because of an electronic governor...its that they don't have enough horsepower to go any faster against wind / road resistance.

It would be interesting to see what that speed is for a Super Duty. They are as aerodynamic as a brick, and it takes a LOT of HP to push that beast through the air.

First Longish run in mine from Phoenix to Flagstaff Arizona, looking for fun in the snow and trying out the 4 wheel drive. This 6.7L makes driving the hills effortless! It never needed to get out of 6th gear! I am very pleased with the performance!

To add to the conversation, I know it can go at least 85

I had a work truck that came with 275/?r18 and would do about 96 on GPS. Then I changed tires to 295/?r18 and it would pull hard up to 105. I did not like the way it handled at speed when you suddenly let off and had to let off gradually for it to settle until around 85 then it felt normal.

That certainly isn't the case with this truck. I had a 2008 with an H&S tuner on it. The governor was set to 200 mph. Now, I don't expect it would go that fast, however, with 650hp it wasn't breathing hard at 100.

Don't kid yourself. With the doubling of speed, drag quadruples.

I have several vehicles well over 600 hp and 200 or anywhere close is a HUGE number to get to.

With something as aerodynamic as a brick (Super Duty) just keeping parts on the truck would be a task.

I wasn't talking about the Super Duty when I made that comment, rather, something like a Toyota Yaris or some other underpowered rig.

Wind speed does drastically increase required horsepower. A 1200HP Veyron is using all of that power to hit 257mph. 650HP to move a brick like the Super Duty really isn't much. The Veyron has a much smaller frontal area, weighs a lot less, and is low. To theoretically hit 200 in a Super Duty, you'd probably need well over 2,000HP.

Sometimes redline / gearing is the limiting factor as well. This could certainly be the case for higher-geared diesel Super Duty trucks.

I agree with both of you. I would estimate that the 2008 would have had trouble hitting 125mph. I've spent a fair amount of time driving over 100mph in police cruisers. The handling characteristics really change when you hit triple digits. I really wouldn't want to try to drive a Super Duty that fast.
