I recently changed stereos in my 2002 XLT 4 dr 4WD Explorer and perhaps coincindentally the green ABS light has activated. I have turned the truck off and the light will go out, and come back on at less than 5mph, so there may be a problem after all. Disconnected batty, the light will still come on as before. Any clues where to start?
Not to be a smart aleck, but have you checked to make sure that there is nothing physically wrong with your brakes? You could always pull off the front passenger side wheel and take a look to make sure (I find that the front pass. side is usually the most worn brake on the vehicle). Is the brake fluid reservoir filled up? If that's not the culprit, since it's under warranty, can you get Ford to take a look at it?
Hello; Yes the brake pads are fairly new with only a few thousand miles on them, and the rears are also new, loaded calipers. The truck drives and stops just fine, but it does have 70K so warranty is past. Dont worry about inputting, it may have helped me or others also.
My ABS light on my '02 XLT 4dr 4x4 came on back in June. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the "ABS Module", what ever that is. Seamed to fix the problem as the light was now off and did not come on.......... until a few weeks ago. The light has started to come again. Not very regular thought. Mostly after driving 45 min. or more, but sometimes it doesn’t come on at all. I was going to take it back to the dealer last week but had too many other things going on. Oh well, going to try to do it next week.
this can be caused by many things. One problem is the ABS module which is a multifunction valve which proportions pressure to both back wheels and ensures that the rear brakes engage before the front...and also aids in ABS. Another problem could be in the ABS system check which is done when the key is turned to ON, which could indicate a problem with the pump or other part of the brake system - not brake pads though...
