I was luckily enough to find a 54 F800 Big Job dump truck near by and cheap I snatched it up as soon as the boss said ok. I'm having a major service done to the truck prior to driving it the 165 miles home. I'd like to know if any one has input on what services should be done. I'm pretty sure I will need new tires and possibly new wheels. I'm not sure if the wheels on there are the widow makers or not. I know they are the 8 bolt pattern which isn't ideal. I excited to bring her home and see if my wife kills me.
Now thats a Christmas score.. I would says tire should be ok just take it easy.
The rims are not window makers I rather have budd rims any day.. Keep us posted.

I'll start off with a welcome. Great looking F-800 / M-H M-804. The person to talk to about service needs is Chuck Mantiglia. He's the M-H expert and Big Job as a whole expert. His web site is linked below. I believe too that he can get you a copy of your M-H M-804 manual for the truck.
Your wheels that can be seen are not widow makers. They have Firestone R-5° three piece outer rims that can be serviced at any OTR type shop. Matter-of-fact, that rim design is still sold new today. You'll want to be sure all the wheels are alike. Finding replacements having the 8 x 10" pattern would be a challenge. Only Ford used that pattern. Stu
Welcome to FTE, the best Ford Truck Forum on the World Wide Web! There are a lot of big truck guys here and MH guys here that can answer any questions you may have.
Thanks for the pictures. When you can show us more pics of the engine, interior and the MH parts and tell us about its history.
Welcome to the forum..That thing is beautiful. If the truck has been in use, it should be an enjoyable run with a cruise speed of maybe 40-45 mph. IMO, do not push it to interstate speeds. So far as services before moving. BRAKE INSPECTION, fluid check in all areas, grease all fittings, lights, belts and hoses inspection. If the truck has been out of service, the service list would be much more involved. We will need a trip report. Have fun and if you keep us up to date, we all will enjoy.
Hey, Look at that. Ive got your manual. And the other M series. M 704, M 904, M 906. Manuals incase you find your trucks big or little brothers down the road in the future? you cant have just one. Haha

This is not a first print of the manual. Its the October 1957 edition printing for your truck.
dc5types,
Saw this on the jig job thread. Great shots! Congratulations! Those tires look pretty good in the pictures. I agree with the maintenance items. Fluids belts hoses, check and or replace as needed.
Glad the knowledgeable folks came on to reassure you about the rims. I am still learning. (no truck yet)
Have a chase vehicle follow you too. Yea I would think you would need headlights, brake lights and turn signals???!
Also should be a lot of head turning when you cruise home in that. Hope the little women is as happy as you are.
All in all nice unit. Your plans?
Regards,
Chris
Thank you guy so much for all the information guys I really appreciate it. So the truck has a pretty excellent back story. I found it on craigslist a few months ago and wanted to get it but someone beat me to it. That person triedto pick it up with a 7K car trailer they were not successful. So it went back on craigslist. Then another buyer was going to come up for LA but that guys transmission went out going over the Grapevine. I got the phone call that it was available and I send check sight unseen I knew it was a good deal (1800) that wouldn’t come up again. I bought it from an estate the gentlemen that owned it prior to me used it on his acreage to build a pond (My hero) among other things. He purchased from an estate sale and I believe before that it may have been a Oregon DOT vehicle (Orange paint under the green, All wheel drive, and the dump bedwas installed in Oregon are my thoughts behind that) The best news about this truck it that it is in running order. The owner wanted to hear it run prior to passing away and used it prior to that so the mechanicthat worked on it for him when out to his house and tuned it up in mid 2015. My brother in law and I were able to get it started and idling with fresh gas andsome starting fluid. Air brakes are holding at 90 PSI J I had her towed to the same mechanic that’s done that workand basically told them I need to drive it 165 miles and I want to be able touse it. Even though they did a tune up recently I want to change all the fluids including the transfer cases. I’m thinking newer tires would be ideal if they aren’ttoo much. New hoses, Belts, brake lines, andair lines. Planned uses um just about anything… I have a backyard project that I will use it for deliveries and I didn’t have a truck that could tow anything so now I don’t have that problem. I’ve attached some more pics and up load more once I havethem
