I finally got an engine. I still have to pick it up but it is only 1 1/2 miles down the road. It's in a '46 Ford 2 ton (I think it's a 46). It has a '49-53 EAB block. One of the water pumps said it was rebuilt in '67. It is in better condition than the one I had which had several spark plugs missing thus several frozen cylinders which I sold for $75. I now regret it but I got this one for FREE. I hope to pick it up today. I waited 3 weeks for an answer. I'm gonna pull the truck home remove the engine and pull the truck back. The truck is pretty much shot. Example no hood, doors have big holes, no windows, roof crushed, bumper bent, no headlights. At least it still has 4 wheels unlike my parts truck. I amazed it has a 2 speed rearend.
Cool - sounds like you came out ahead! The EAB heads came on '52 & '53 flatheads. When you get it out check the passenger rear corner of the intake flat for an alpha-numeric code like this website indicates. Have fun with it nathan.......
I don't know if I came out ahead...since it needs a new head and 3 pistons. The valves look good inside but wire brush should clean them up nice. Haven't had a chance to look with the oil pan removed. It was made on November 11, 1951.
You can swap the heads - but you'll throw the compression off a bit with an 8BA head. The EAB heads were the hotrodders favorite cause the combustion chambers are the smallest cc heads Ford made. The old boys would bolt them on to get a few more horses.
EAB heads are plentiful - I've seen them at swap meets and on ebay.
Nov. 11, '51 probably went in an early '52. I've heard they have hardened seats thru '51 on both the intake and exhaust valves. If you get a chance, let me know what you find. If the EAB heads were original I expect you'll find either hardened seats on the exhaust valves or none at all.
