'86 F150 intermittent stalling and clicking under hood

I have had the truck since March. Its got 155000 miles on it with the engine replaced at 150000. In 10 years it was driven maybe 10,000 miles. Ive put 10,000 more since March.

I have had no trouble. Except for a stick gear in the automatic transmission. And an an increasingly frequent stalling problem. The worst being this morning in the first freezing temp ive attempted to drive in. I got it started but it stalled three times on the road. Could an air leak in the fuel tank cause this? anything else?
Also hearing an increasingly louder click/tapping sound from the engine. Could this contribute to the stalling?
I am no expert but have a high-medium profeciency for car work.

Your choke works ok? And the hot air system at the aircleaner works ok? If it acts up in cold damp weather it is probably carb icing, that hose that goes down to the exhaust manifold from the aircleaner prevents it. And you have to make sure the flapper door and the vacuum control/sensor for it are working.

I would say that is a place to start looking but...........

We don't know what motor he has and when did they go to EFI?

Does this clicking go away as the motor warms up? Did this clicking start when it started stalling?
