We've finally paid the machinist and I *think* that we have everything that we need to finish putting the F100 back together. The only things we still need are the rocker shaft assemblies. I've got the original ones from the truck, which have a lot of uneven wear on the rockers and were in there when the cam and lifters were shredded. I also have another set from a '73 that my wife and I stripped during the spring that show even wear.
My original thought was to just purchase new shafts and reuse the parts from the '73 assemblies since they show nice, even wear. My wife would like to purchase new assemblies and be done with it. What are everybody's thoughts on these two ideas?
If you recommend replacing the entire assemblies, do you have any recommendations on sources? I've seen what DSC has to offer, so I'd like to see if there are other good sources that I should check out as well.
I checked around just about everywhere I could think of, and ended up going with DSC for the Dove setup. A little pricey, but worth the piece of mind in my opinion. Especially after seeing pictures of broken stock rocker arms and hearing member after member on this forum talking about those stock shafts breaking with a big cam. There are some pics of mine in my gallery...
Thanks for the input. I guess that I could have been a bit more specific about the application. It's a 390 with a 600 CFM carb and the Crane 343902 hydraulic cam/lifter setup. It's going in the '68 F100 with a three-on-the-tree, so it's clearly not a racer; it will be a daily driver.
They are 199.95 at summit. You will also need pushrods: CRN-34645-16
Ford: 332-428 FE, stock length, hydraulic lifters and adjustable rockers, 3/8 in. diameter, 9.234 in...
$89.50

You might want to give some consideration to upgrading those rocker shafts, spacers and stands while you're at it. It'll cost ya a little more but will be worth it in the long run since you're adding some lift with that cam. If you have a chance, a call to Dennis at DSC would be well worth your time. He can tell you exactly what you need without all the BS of just trying to sell you something. 909-763-9765.
I am not trying to sell anyone anything. I am just passing on what I have found in my own search for my own 390 buildup. I have spent hours and hours researching this project. lots of google and fordFE searchs as well as talking to lots of ford guys. Lots of them right here a t FTE. I hate it when people tell me to use some generic item or gidon't say anything about what something might cost. So I try ti give people a clear answer to their questions.
You can have your rockers honed and get oversized shafts and they will be like new. I run the same cam as you and have had no problems with breaking parts like the others say, yes stockers are weak, but plenty good for your cam and your mild truck.
Mine see's 5000rpm+ everytime it is run and I have had no problems. Of course I expect to break something at some point, but it gets abused quite regularly.

They also offer adjustable assemblies --- visit them or your local parts store, a knowledable one of coarse.

Randyb12 - Easy there, dude!! The BS comment wasn't about you! Sorry if it seemed that way. I was only suggesting to bigric that he might want to upgrade the rest of the rocker assembly as well as the rocker arms and pointing him to a good place to get it all from.
