engine won't warm up to normal operating temperature
Hello community I have a strange problem here. My best friend has a 2011 Ford F-250 6.7 ltd power stroke diesel XL. He was driving to Denver in -4 degree weather when all of a sudden his windows iced up and the temperature gage would not sit at normal operating range. ( stayed all the way down on the cool side) the heater seemed to be blowing warm air not hot like it usually does. The thermostat was changed 2 months ago any thoughts on this one?
Hello Senix, he drove 3 plus hours last night Im waiting for him to call back. He is on the road again traveling back to Durango Co. I asked him to look for the obvious loose connections vacuum hoses not attached and to see if the hoses into the heater core are getting hot. He also said as long as he was at highway speed the temp. gage was near normal position ( but not exactly were it usually sits i.e below normal.) He said he got off the interstate and the temp. gage dropped back down below the C but as long as he was on the interstate at highway speed the gage was up and the heat was good. Very Strange.
he said he replaced the thermostat a month or so ago bought the new one form Auto Zone. and noticed a weight difference between the stock part and the Auto Zone part. now tell me this if you can is the thermostat on this truck a duel thermostat ?
he is currently driving through Colorado Springs CO. and says the temp gauge is all over the place but never overheating. No gauge screen on his model truck but he does have a transmission temp gauge and it is not hot at all
is there any test to determine which thermostat is bad or should he just replace both. I due believe he replaced the one on the block but I won't know for sure until he gets home to Durango Colorado.
Some brands of "auto parts" thermostats look the same but are not the same as OEM. Some open way too quickly making it cold in the cab.
To test thermostat... put it in water bring it up slowly to 195 deg and see if it opens at that temp.
I would replace both at same time.
Being this cold. Place a piece of cardboard in front of radiator
