97 F250 4X4 PSD Auto 251K on the odometer.
As I had posted earlier I have been having problems with what I thought was the IDM shutting down one bank when cold. Had some burnt GP pins on the RH valve cover gasket and pigtail, so I decided to upgrade to SD gaskets.
Got the gaskets installed today, started it up before putting the covers back on just to be sure. The problem remains! Found 4 injectors, one on the left bank and three on the right that weren't putting out any oil. One picked up after about 2 minutes, but the other 3 didn't until the oil warmed up, probably 15 minutes.
Guess it's time to bite the bullet and order a set of injectors.
Yeah, I am planning to go with Rosewood, but it'll have to wait while I gather the $$$. Figure there's no way that 250K mile injectors will make it as a budget build. I have another set that have even more miles, might try to find a few that'll run for a while.
Maybe try this, I haven't personally used it but for the price might be worth a shot

That sounds almost too good to be true, but if it would get me by for a little longer......
Anybody here tried these and do they work?
I definitely want to try this on my truck, I have 321 thousand miles on my original injectors, and I was looking for something to milk it a little bit longer.
Keep in mine that using that kit you will wear the injector beyond being able to be fixed are use as a core.
If your injectors don't fire until the oil is warm then they are worn past the .002 clearance point and shimming the armature plate is only going to buy you time and cost you more in the long run
Keep in mine that using that kit you will wear the injector beyond being able to be fixed are use as a core.
If the injectors are "worn" to the point that they won't fire when cold, then what is the correct repair? Rebuilt or new injectors?
This is the truck that I drug out of a field and named "low buck beater". It is a rough old work truck that I'm slowly bringing back to dependable service, but I don't have a lot of funds to throw at it. If this kit will get me another 50K out of it, maybe by then I'll be able to afford another set.
Proper thing to do is have them rebuilt. The shim is not a fix. It's a bandaid that's going to cause you greater issues down the road. At this point you're look at 12-1500 to have them rebuilt. If you run them another 50k with shims (if it doesn't break the armature screw) you'll be looking at close to 3k.
Had some time today to work on the truck, got the shim kit installed. As was said above, it's just a band-aid, not a fix for worn out injectors. I have to say that my truck runs better than it has since I've owned it. Still not right, but so much better.
As usual I got busy and totally forgot to take pics. It is a really simple job once you have the valve covers off. 4 screws to remove the coil and spacer, check clearance between armature and injector body with feeler gauge, add shims to get a snug .004 fit. The kit I bought had the coil shims also, add the same amount between the coil and spacer as you do on the armature.
When I started the engine before installing the valve covers it fired right up with just a minimal miss. Not dead, just not firing as strong as the other cylinders.Evidently one injector is beyond patching.
I have another set of high mileage injectors that I pulled out because of a dead miss on two cylinders, I may try shimming one of the "good" ones and drop it in that hole.
Depending on the direction I decide to go with this truck, I may bite the bullet and drop a set of rebuilts in it.
